QUICK START

The main thing to remember when looking at GreenHopper is that GreenHopper is really just another user interface for JIRA.

  • Everything you see comes from the JIRA data. (Projects, Versions, Issues, ...)
  • Everything you do will be pushed to JIRA. (Notifications, Workflow functions ...)
  • Whatever you configure in JIRA will be reflected in GreenHopper. (Fields, Permissions, Security ...)

So basically if you are comfortable with JIRA, GreenHopper should be a real walk in the park!

Here is a quick check list that will provide you with the most valuable features of GreenHopper.

  • You will need a ranking field to prioritize your issues. (ordinal priority)
    Follow this step by step "how to", should be straight forward.

  • Organize your versions like folders.
    See Planning Board mode: By Versions. Very simple but powerful.

  • Add your own statistics (like Story points) and have access to the more charts
    Adding a statistic will automatically add a Burnup, Burndown and Value (velocity) chart for that statistic.

  • Use the contexts to narrow down your issues to display
    See the Context section for how to use, create and share contexts.

QUICK CONFIG FOR AGILE SCRUM

From JIRA

  • Add the Issue Type User Story from your JIRA > Administration > Issue Settings > Issue Types
  • Add the Number Custom field Story Point for your Project and new Issue Type User Story from your JIRA > Administration > Issue Fields > Custom Fields
  • Add the GreenHopper Ranking Field Rank for your Project and ALL Issue Types User Story from your JIRA > Administration > Issue Fields > Custom Fields
  • Make sure you enable the sub-tasks from JIRA > Administration > Global Settings > Sub-tasks
  • Make sure you enable the Timetracking from JIRA > Administration > Global Settings > Time Tracking

From GreenHopper

  • Customize your Card Templates from GreenHopper > Configuration > CARD TEMPLATES
    • Add the Story points in your User Story card template
    • Withdraw all time relating fields from your User Story card template
  • Register your Rank field for your project from GreenHopper > Configuration > GENRAL >> Ranking Fields

Voila!

We recommend the default workflow of JIRA, it is lean and works great.
Remember whatever you do or configure in JIRA will be reflected in GreenHopper.
