task board configuration problem

I am unable to get GH to keep the configuration I set up for the task board. For my story type issue, I have 4 status options. I want 3 of them to map to the TO DO column on the task board and 1 of them to map to the closed column on the task board. It keeps changing one of them to the IN PROGRESS task board column.
Do I have to have a status that maps to the In Progress?

This board was redesigned to be more intuitive. It will be released in version 1.4.

Now in your case what I think you are trying to do is assign the same status from different workflows to different columns. I know the actual configuration board let you think you can do so but actually you can't. This is why the behavior your are getting is unsaved values.

The behavior is good: It will be a bit strange to have the same status in different columns.
The feedback is wrong: You think your config is saved but it isn't (without any notification)

What you might consider is to add a new Status for your Story if you want it in another column.

Now like I said, this board was simplified.

Yes - that it is.
This also relates to the feature request I logged on having a fourth column on the task board to put the parent story. That would help this as well.
